Inclusion Health is an umbrella term used to describe people who are socially excluded, who typically experience multiple overlapping risk factors for poor health, such as poverty, violence, and complex trauma, currently experiencing or at risk of homelessness, vulnerable migrants and refugees, and those with substance and alcohol misuse difficulties.

Inclusion groups in the East Riding face multiple systemic barriers to health and care and are at an increased risk of poorer health outcomes compared to the general population.

To address the systemic health inequalities inclusion groups face we need an understanding of the issues people experience, and to develop knowledge, skills and confidence alongside partners to help deliver change.

This programme is progressing the following workstreams with the overarching aim of improving access to and experience of services within the East Riding for inclusion groups:

  • Understanding the strengths and needs of inclusion groups
  • Workforce development
  • Integration of support for inclusion groups
  • Increasing strategic system partner buy-in
  • Deep dive insight and co-production

Key Activities:

  • Implementing the recommendations of the Inclusion Health Needs Assessment Phase One
  • Undertake Phase Two of the Inclusion Health Needs Assessment (Voice of Lived Experience)
  • Inclusion Champions – a network of staff and volunteers from across the system (in all sectors of the East Riding), who are passionate about improving outcomes for people from inclusion health groups
  • Service developments – Bridlington Homeless Hub, Inclusion Health vehicle presence at Gypsey, Roma Traveller sites
  • Awareness Raising – quarterly Inclusion Health newsletter
  • Influencing policy – Commissioning for inclusion project

An East Riding Inclusion Health Needs Assessment was published in November 2024. You can read the report here: Inclusion Health – East Riding JSNA

Inclusion Health Champions

System partners have worked together to design an Inclusion Health Champions scheme. We are now recruiting new Champions, and we are looking for staff and volunteers from across the system (in all sectors across the East Riding), who are passionate about improving outcomes for people from Inclusion Health Groups.
