Love Driffield – Driffield and The Wolds Foodbank

Overview

This page gives a summary of the Love Driffield – Driffield and The Wolds Foodbank insight report, a project that involved Healthwatch East Riding of Yorkshire, Love Driffield (a community hub and foodbank) and The Cherry Tree Community Centre ( a charitable organisation that provides many valuable services to the local community and surrounding area).

Love Driffield and The Cherry Tree Community Centre

This project involving the three organisations, engaged with vulnerable residents and aimed to understand their health and social care issues. The project sought to hear the voice of seldom heard communities, especially those in rural areas, analyse the impact of the cost-of-living crisis on residents’ health and well-being, and support the local community through volunteering at the foodbank, offering advice and signposting, and creating social value.

Key findings

The project revealed several challenges and barriers that residents face in accessing health and social care services, such as:

  • digital exclusion
  • difficulty in booking GP appointments
  • rural challenges and isolation
  • pressures from the Cost-of-Living Crisis

The project also highlighted the personal stories of some residents who struggled with mental and physical health problems, financial hardship, and homelessness. The impact of the cost-of-living crisis was highlighted and how it has affected residents’ health, social life, and access to basic needs. The project also demonstrated how community resources like Love Driffield and The Cherry Tree Community Centre provide vital support, advice, and social opportunities for residents in need.
