School Readiness in Driffield

Healthwatch East Riding of Yorkshire completed this 2025 report to gather data on school readiness in Driffield.

It focussed on developmental milestones, opportunities to identify any additional support that may be required, accessibility of support, and the impact of socio-economic factors on children’s preparedness for school.

Key findings from the report included:

• School Readiness Concerns: Increased number of pupils with difficulties in toileting, speech and language, social interaction, sleep, behaviour, and sensory needs.

• Impact of COVID-19: Notable increase in pupils not being school ready post-COVID-19.

• Financial Barriers: Many activities that support school readiness have associated costs, potentially leading to financial exclusion.

• Community and Support: Strong community spirit and good public transport but limited local activities and support for children with SEND.

• Parental Awareness: Majority of parents are aware of developmental milestones, but this knowledge often comes from personal education or professional background in education.
