Health and Wellbeing Assessment in the East Riding

Oral Health

Oral health is an important component of health which is often overlooked and can have profound effects on the general wellbeing and quality of life of individuals. Dental and gum diseases are predominantly preventable through good self-care and efficient dental services. With tooth decay as the most common oral disease affecting children and young people in England, it is important to educate and promote good oral health to children from a young age. In order to improve oral health we need to have an understanding of the oral health needs of the local population in the East Riding.

East Riding Oral Health Improvement Targeted Settings

The Oral Health and Epidemiology Intelligence Support Document shown below, was produced in July 2019 and data from this rapid needs assessment has helped inform commissioning of children and young people’s oral health services.

In May 2025, the following review was produced ‘East Riding Oral Health Improvement Targeted Settings (3 to 5 year olds) Data Review‘.

Mouth Cancer Action Month (MCAM)

Mouth Cancer Action Month is a charity campaign which aims to raise awareness of mouth cancer and save lives by promoting the values of prevention and early detection. The document below provides a summary of two MCAM events from 2025.

Across both events, the MCAM 2025 programme achieved strong community engagement, delivered valuable oral health education, identified multiple individuals needing urgent referral, and strengthened partnerships with health, wellbeing, and community organisations. Public feedback overwhelmingly praised the support, professionalism, and accessibility of the services provided. Further detail about the events can be viewed within the document below.
