Although the East Riding of Yorkshire overall has relatively good health outcomes, there remain pockets of deprivation, and Bridlington contains the most densely concentrated pocket of deprivation in the East Riding.
To enable people to have improved access to and experience of health and wellbeing services within Bridlington and its environs, a refreshed “system” approach is needed. Bridlington has many existing assets, and this programme is focusing on developing the infrastructure to bring them together, mobilising system support to respond to gaps and issues identified, through a modified asset-based community development (ABCD) approach.
The Bridlington programme is progressing the following workstreams:
- Community and Transport
- Education, Training and Workforce
- Estate and Infrastructure
- Health and Care
Throughout 25/26, the Bridlington Place-Based Programme is part of the National Coastal Navigators Network which is working with 16 priority coastal towns from across the country to address the health and economic challenges faced by coastal communities with the support of the Chief Medical Officer, Professor Chris Whitty.
Key Activities of the Bridlington Programme:
- Develop an overarching Health Improvement Plan for health and care in the communities in and close to Bridlington to provide a framework for the direction of care planning in the area and to inform future decision making on resource allocation
- Collation of a Bridlington Health Transport Directory
- Development of a local community lift transport scheme for medical appointments
- Supporting students with their ambitions in Health and Social Care careers at the Bridlington Health and Care Academy
- Developing co-ordinated local pathways for employment in Health and Care
- Supporting the co-location of VCSE, Local Authority, Health and private sector organisations at the Crown Community
- Seeking to bring to life the vision of a Live well Campus
- Develop an overarching Health Improvement Plan for health and care in the communities in and close to Bridlington to provide a framework for the direction of care planning in the area and to inform future decision making on resource allocation
